Subject: Long Awaited Results - Whirlwind Scramble

All,

Great times out there last weekend.  I was a bit off on my projections.  My top 3 teams did all tie for 2nd, but Death by Motor Boat was motivated to action by the Trash Talk and took down the top prize.  As a result they are considering dropping their absent captain again in the future – was missing Pete their Key to Victory???

·         1st place – Death by Motorboat Gross 63, Net 57

·         2nd place was a 3 way tie

o    Tee Bags Gross 65, Net 59

o    3 Putt Gross 67, Net 59

o    Breakfast Ballers Gross 66, Net 59

·         5th place – Husker Nation Gross 65, Net 62

·         6th Place – Tee Wrecks Gross 72, Net 64

·         7th Place – Team FKA 4 Jacks, now known as The Scabs (played with only 3) – Gross 71, Net 65

KP’s paid a whopping $50 each and were awarded to dart throwers: Jack L (Husker nation), John Wilinski (Scabs), Glenn Hutchinson (Huskers), and Jeff Dorchester (Scabs).

Important Announcements – Upcoming Tourney’s.

We have had to be a bit flexible on our dates in order to secure the next 3 courses.  All are considered top public courses in Arizona, and all have also ranked in Golf Digests Top 100 courses in America.

·         July will again be the 2nd Saturday  - July 14th at the Raven at South Mountain.  Stay tuned for details next week.

o    This is a standard Match Play event.

·         August will be moved to the 3rd Saturday to get a better rate (we get $58 vs. $86).  We will be playing August 18th at the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course, home of the FBR Open.

o    This is a standard Match Play event.

·         September will be moved to the 4th Saturday to avoid the Holiday (note - there are 5 Sat’s that month).  We will be playing the Ocotillo (we get $52 vs. $65) Golf Resort on September 22nd

o    Note – Ocotillo will be the 3rd Special Event of the Year – the epic 2-Man Alternate Shot format.  You choose your pairings – choose wisely as this course has water on 16 holes!

Please let me know as soon as possible if these are bad dates for anyone.  We could consider moving to less quality courses if they are inconvenient for a majority.

In Hindsight Bogus - Predictions:

·         7) No prediction for the Husker Nation – as an invitee visiting from Nebraska lets all hope they throw the match in favor of our good graces - ringer or not!  We are sending them off last to bask in the cool air of the Arizona desert.  Have a nice vacation.  PS – I was at the game when ASU gave Nebraska a 17-0 shellacking ending their 400 game win streak or whatever it was.  Good times J

·         6) At Last year’s invitational You’re Still Away ran away with the title in a putt off.  But this year they are missing their anchor, Pete ‘how does that swing yield consistent drives?’ Owens.  They also changed their name to Death by Motor Boat.  That team is beginning to resemble Lou Pinella in fit of rage and the prediction is DEAD LAST for this year.  Sorry guys – no repeat for you.

·         5) Tee Wrecks have a solid team and another healthy handicap.  Last month someone on that team was bombing drives into my foursome (we were slow, and they were long).  I think that was a sub though, and not a regular team member.  I would normally rank them higher but they continue to send me emails with a picture of a T-Rex dinosaur waving a Nebraska pennant.  Until that stops – they remain at the bottom.  Fifth place.

·         4) The Four Jacks completely imploded and have been replaced with a team of ‘scabs’.  Make no mistake these guys have a nice mix of low and high handicaps, and a couple of players who can seek the pin.  I like them to take fourth place – and eventually contend once they gel.  They will pick a team name, but until then they are ‘The Team FKA Four Jacks’FKA 4 Jacks – 4th place

·         3) Tee Bags won a bunch of money last month and have made a few strong moves up the team rankings.  They got slaughtered in the first couple tourneys but are definitely getting the hang of this league.  They are bringing in a couple subs including a ringer (8 hdcp) named Kohei Koyama.  I think he was the attorney for Kaiser Soze in the Usual Suspects.  Based on these facts, I like them to take third place.

·         2) OK – I am a homer – I like the Breakfast Balls for 2nd place.  We lost a permanent member (Tom Deschamps) who moved to Portland, but he has been replaced by Dr. Andy Purtiman.  Those of you around last year will remember Tom actually replaced Andy on our team after Andy had a freakish snowboarding accident just before this tournament last year.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.  I think that the moons have aligned and the original BBalls will make a big splash – and that’s not just a repeat of my Tin Cup episode on hole one at Stone Creek.  BBallers – 2nd place.

·         1) Who will win?  Only one team left and it’s a shocker!  I like 3 Putt, for 3 reasons.  1) They are getting out first (6:30 AM) and thus will be least impacted by the heat.  2) They have also demonstrated they know how to work as a team – winning the 2-club scramble earlier this year by a big margin. And 3) They have the highest handicap at 8 strokes.  If they can hold off that Husker Nation Invitee/Ringer business I like them to take home top dollar.
